Concept
This was a cross platform consumer campaign I worked on for a case study in my Interaction Design class. The goal of this project was for me as a designer to come up with a creative way to inform the public of one of South Carolina’s Blue Laws. The law I decided to do was a law from section 40-41-310 which stated it is illegal for fortune tellers to practice unless they obtain a permit from the state or county they are in. In this campaign, I designed three billboards, a mobile website and a desktop website. Below are the mock-ups of all three aspects of the campaign. I also added a walk through for the fully prototyped mobile website and desktop website.
Research
I did not know much about fortune telling when I came into this project. However, as I started to do research, I found that fortune telling has multiple different aspects that are important. There are tarot cards, tea leaves, crystals, palm reading, etc. I decided to go with the idea and theme of tarot cards because through my research it seemed they are widely used throughout the practice. I also did some research about what archetype I wanted to do. I decided to go with a joker archetype, more specifically the shapeshifter archetype. I found some interesting photo references to the astrology aspect of fortune telling which resulted in me finding the color theme I wanted. I wanted a purple, yellow, and maybe cream color scheme. I wanted to go with complimentary colors, but all colors that I thought were important to the practice of fortune telling.
Final
The final ended up looking very cohesive. I really enjoyed the process of this project and seeing how you can apply the designs you used on the billboards to both the desktop and mobile screens websites. It was also very satisfying to see the websites work the way I intended for them to. Below are some mock-ups of the desktop screens.
